Sonora Medical Systems: The Nickel; Serious Tool, Compact Design

Sonora Welcome's the EchoChief Community

Now in use on a worldwide basis, the Nickel™ has rapidly become the defacto standard in establishing a baseline of performance for ultrasound systems and transducers in the clinical setting. Using each probe and system as its own control the sensitivity and performance of each can be monitored as a function of time for any variances that may compromise your ability to deliver a quality ultrasound study. The Nickel™ detects acoustic pulses coming from each crystal within the probe and indicates to the sonographer, through a blinking green LED, that an acceptable pulse is being transmitted from the probe. If the LED remains red, it indicates that particular element is not transmitting. If several elements are not transmitting the probe should not be used to acquire clinical data. The Nickel™ also inputs a series of electrical impulses at various frequencies back into the probe that simulate the signals that would be returning from the body. These signals will be displayed on the ultrasound system monitor in B-mode, M-mode, Pulsed Doppler and Color Flow. If the ultrasound system has a failure, or has decreased in performance level in any one of these modes the resultant display on the monitor will indicate this. The Nickel™ is also useful for testing various special processing functions like 2nd Harmonic Imaging, dynamic focusing and spatial compounding
